Igloo Ice Blast – July 2021

A tough week appears to have finally showed its good side. Football may not have come home but the sun has returned and, believe it or not, it is still summer! With the changeability of British weather we know that now could be the perfect time to head out over the weekend and enjoy it whilst it lasts, and we know a couple of great places to recommend. We here at Igloo also have the latest events round-up, plus directions to our properties for you late birds to secure your 2021-22 accommodation!

Rother Valley Park

If you’re looking for an activity packed location that is both accessible and price friendly, Rother Valley Park is right up there. Situated not far east of Sheffield, the park boasts a giant lake that hosts water activities like zorbing, sailing, and kayaking/canoeing. You can even go jet skiing! But what if you don’t like water? Well, Rother Valley Park also has its own golf course (Rother Valley Golf Centre), equipped with an 18 hole course for the more competent players, or a 9 hole, and even foot golf courses which are fun for all. With a reasonably priced activity programme, Rother Valley Park could certainly be worth the short drive out of the city for the day. You might even find yourself cooling off in the sun if your canoeing skills aren’t up to scratch… that lake can be chilly even in the sweltering heat! Rother Valley is a truly great day out in this glorious weather, so why not head up there this weekend, it’s a true Igloo favourite!

Parkwood Springs

Located just beyond the Kelham Island district of Sheffield is Parkwood Springs. Whilst this outdoor area isn’t quite the activity-packed Rother Valley it still has plenty to offer on a day of warm weather. The park has a mountain bike trail and plenty of walking paths, but perhaps the most exciting spot is to the south west of Parkwood Springs. Walking in that direction will take you towards the top of the old Sheffield Ski Village, once Europe’s largest artificial resort and a vastly popular spot. Heading just left of the old Ski Village, the trees open up for a full scale view of the city of Sheffield. The viewpoint enjoys sunlight all day, with sunrise and sunset dominating the daily highlights, and can provide a great spot to sit and take in the city whilst feeling the heat of the glaring sun. Further back into Parkwood Springs provides more shade should the heat take its toll, and the short journey down to Kelham Island means that a refreshing beverage is just around the corner. Parkwood Springs is a top spot in Sheffield and certainly warrants a trip just for the stunning view. If you look hard enough, you might even spot the Igloo office (although, you probably won’t)!
