We’ve also provided a round up of some of Sheffield’s biggest and best club nights and events, so make sure you check that out at the bottom.
Sheffield Spotlight – West Street
A true student hotspot, nothing emulates the phrase “lets head out for a few drinks” like West Street does. Encompassing a variety of bars, food places, clubs, and more, plus playing host to Sheffield’s town centre tram line, it certainly has it all, and frequently welcomes for the mass student influx on a nightly basis.
West Street’s position amongst university culture is cemented deep, with the iconic road layered with prime student hotspots. From the top end – towards the ring road – are numerous culturally diverse restaurants, cafes, and eateries that literally caters for everyone. Pubs like The Cavendish, The Wick at Both Ends, and Beehive go beyond your typical pub, and alike The Nursery Tavern bring a wider range of beverages to suit everyone. Should you want to explore the more typical ‘bars’, head further down West Street beyond Nando’s and you’ll hit the jackpot.
The heart of Sheffield’s nightlife district, West Street’s main body blends your typical chain bars with unique Steel City specialties. With a Players Bar on the right hand side heading down, the left hand side is where the magic happens. Molly Malone’s Irish Tavern does exactly what is says on the sign, emulating a traditional Irish bar. Next door, Firepit Rocks has a range of food and drinks, including speciality cocktails, not to mention live sports, entertainment systems, and a live DJ. Further down on the left you’ll find Tiger Works, more of a typical club night with reasonably prices drinks, before you hit the home of the cheap night out: West Street Live.
As you enter, and face the bar, this is where the night starts to get really exciting. Plastered on the bar wall is an all encompassing range of drinks deals cheaper that pretty much anywhere in Sheffield. Blending classics, rock, and pop anthems, West Street Live brings an array of music to accompany their excellent drinks, and provide a great night out destination. The iconic Bierkeller also sits on West Street just further along, before Maida Vale signals the end of the true West Street strip. A row of bars like no other, Sheffield’s West Street is a crucial part of the university student night life, for both Sheffield Hallam and University of Sheffield students, so if you haven’t already journeyed down to West Street, make sure you don’t miss out!
