As the new academic year nears close, and students return to Sheffield, here at Igloo Accommodation we want to provide more than your housing, by giving you a new monthly round up of some of the best places to visit, hidden student hotspots, and tricks to save money on your nights out! We’ve also provided a round up of some of Sheffield’s biggest and best club nights and events, so make sure you check that out at the bottom.
Sheffield Spotlight – The Nursery Tavern
One of Sheffield’s prime hotspots for students, The Nursery Tavern – or ‘Tav’ as it is commonly known – plays host to hundreds of Hallam alumni each week. Situated at the heart of Ecclesall Road (Eccy Road, near Marks & Spencer) and open until midnight, the recently renovated Tav holds a key position amongst the Sheffield Hallam faithful, and for good reason.
With an array of television screens both inside and in their iconic beer garden, The Tav screens almost any live sports fixture you could imagine, from Premier League football to Rugby Union, cricket, Formula 1, and more! Whether you’re watching the sport, out for a few drinks with friends, or sat out back enjoying the glorious sun, The Tav’s extensive food menu can keep you stocked up and help soak up some of the booze. Breakfast, lunch, vegan and veggie, and buffet menus are all available alongside the standard Tav menu, just to give you that extra freedom when choosing your meals. A selection of reasonably priced pub classics, old favourites, and a few more modern additions such as tapas, and romana pizza, give The Nursery Tavern one of the best affordable food menus on Eccy Road, and we haven’t even started on the drinks!
If you’re looking for a cheap night, here’s an Igloo Top Tip: head down to The Nursery Tavern on Monday and Wednesday nights during term time, as the special Quid Drinks menu is in place! This menu includes pints such as lager and cider, with a student favourite ‘Dark Fruits’ being available as an old fashioned cider and black. There are also other cheap drinks available on these nights, such as vodka mixers for £1.25, and a variety of shots ranging from £1-£1.50. Monday sees The Tav play host to pre-drinks for the infamous Tank Monday’s – check out event listings below to see more about Tank – and Wednesday welcomes the Hallam Nation pre-drinks, hence the discounted drinks, however anyone can take advantage of these prices even if you aren’t going out! For the remainder of the week, and during discounted nights, the standard drinks menu runs with a fine selection of beers, spirits, cocktails, soft drinks, and more. With further deals on shots, and pints starting at just a couple of pounds, this is something that every student dreams of!
So whether you want a few quiet drinks in the 40+ table beer garden, pre-drinks out front in the heated smoking area, book a party package, or enjoy some food in the comfort of The Tav’s excellent upholstery, Ecclesall Road’s prime drinking location is The Nursery Tavern.
